The National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy struck a task force to examine how to balance conservation with economic activity in Canada’s boreal forest. A major part of the final report was informed by the findings of three case studies. The objectives of the case studies were to: outline key regulatory and fiscal barriers to conservation in the case study areas, focusing on those that are national in scope; create recommendations on how regulatory and fiscal policy can promote conservation in the boreal forest; and identify examples of best practices and national-level instruments that currently seek to balance conservation with economic development. This report provides the case study for the Muskwa-Kechika special management area established in northeast British Columbia.
